Great Scot!

While rummaging through some boxes I came across this rough pre-design character I did for Catscratch. He changed a bit in the final design but the general idea is still there. I colored him just for my own enjoyment.

Post-It Painting

I was just going to post this little post-it doodle but after scanning it in I got a bit carried away and before I knew it I'd colored over it....oh well.

The Dog-Lion

It was a nice day and I was out doodling in the park during my lunch break when I hear the pitter-patter of paws on pavement. Looking up I was surprised by the sight of none other than a Dog-Lion, yes half dog, half lion. He was quite distinctive as he came loping by and I furiously tried to capture him on paper before he disappeared. (Digitally painted later)

The children in the park were very fascinated by him as well.....
.....I think Dog-Lion enjoyed the attention.

An Experiment in Gouache

So I had an urge to paint something traditionally and since I like the gouache tool so much in Painter I figured I should try out the real stuff. Having never used gouache before I decided to start with something simple and this silly fellow volunteered as my test subject. Thought I'd share the process:

Just my blue sketch, always my favorite part : )

This was my color study which was done on a xerox with watercolor-which explains the folds in the paper. I did a couple of these but I liked this one best.

And this was the final result in gouache, painted on a scrap piece of matte board with the lines done in ink. My conclusion: I'm pretty rusty at painting traditionally but I had fun playing with the gouache. It was fun trying to think through my mistakes without having an undo button. Overall it was an enjoyable experiment.

Can I play?

Hello everyone, well I finally got brave and decided to join this crazy blog world. Mostly I wanted an easier way to keep my site updated and share my work. Hopefully I'll be posting sketches and doodles and scribbly work in progress stuff here every now and then. And to get things started here is a little drawing of a cape fox-he's been sitting on my desk lonely waiting for color....
